PG16 – Booming economy?
Tyler: It’s weird, we often hear about the booming economy, but somehow I don’t seem to cashing in and reaping the benefits. Instead I feel more and more like our earnings are being squeezed and we’re forced to pay through our noses just to get by.Lisa: Ich merke auch nichts von der angeblich brummenden Wirtschaft.
Tyler: I don’t know either where all that dosh gets stashed but you only need to look in some of the parking garages around town and it’s clear that some people are rolling in dough - filthy rich. Porsche, Mercedes, Beamers (BMWs)… all over the shop!
Tyler: Hey Babe, don’t let it get you down. We may have to keep a close eye on our budget at the moment but I’m sure things will start looking up for us and with some luck, we won’t have to be quite so frugal and skimp so much in the future.
Tyler: And what does that mean then?
Tyler: Ah yeah, that’s a great expression to finish us off. “Schaffe, schaffe, Häusle bauen“ can be used ironically to say to someone who is always working and doesn’t take time out to chill - similar to the English „all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy“. In a positive context however, it can be loosely translated, „if you put your head down, you’ll achieve something“.
Lisa: So das war es für heute.
Tyler: Yeah, we’re going t o go and build some houses now.
